Due to the economic decline it is suggested that up to ‘3 Million’ people will plan to change their career in 2009.
A survey conducted in October found that 21% of adults in a sample of 2,086 are planning to gain extra qualifications in the near future and that 8% plan to find a new job. Based on the statistics that there are approximately 40 million adults in the UK, 8% would lead to around 3.2 million changing career next year.
David Collins, President of the AoC, said: “Understandably the current economic situation will trigger people to reassess their situation and to come to bold decisions about their future.”
The study found that 38% of people want to return to education to increase their earning power. One in 10 said they wanted more qualifications because they felt they were in the wrong job, and wished they had made different decisions about their education and career.
